On Sunday, the XL Winter Series, which will run through January 31, hit its halfway point. The festival offers more than $2.5 million in guarantees over dozens of events, ranging from $5.50-$55 for most tournament buy-ins.

Through the first 14 tournaments, 8,096 entrants have competed with $461,360 in prize money awarded. Thus far, players from Lithuania lead the pack with four title wins, while Romanian players are hot on their heels with three victories. Brazilian players have won a pair of titles, while sole victories go to players from Germany, Sweden, Thailand, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.

Here are some highlights from the last week of play in the XL Winter Series on 888poker.

WalnutPix Wins High Roller for $14,000

On Saturday, January 21, the $1,050 buy-in, $35K GTD Event #12: High Roller saw 27 players rebuy three times. So, the $35,000 prize pool was reserved for the top five finishers. Among those to compete, but fail to cash, were “pactamah23”, “AUTISPOSTI”, and bubble boy “Slovnyk”, to name a few.

Romania’s “bucurestean” was the first to bust the final table in fifth place for $2,800. The United Kingdom’s Tom “sheeeeeeeeet” Hall followed them out the door in fourth for $3,500.

After Ukraine’s “BetBetFck” bowed out in third place for $5,250, the title came down to Malta’s “Kabosu69” and the UK’s “WalnutPix”.

After 5 hours and 36 minutes of play, “WalnutPix” prevailed to claim the title and $14,000 first-place prize.

Lithuania’s skacas Wins Mystery Bounty High Roller

On Sunday, January 22, the $525 buy-in, $45K GTD Event #14: Mystery Bounty High Roller 8-Max attracted 62 players who rebought 21 times. The $45,000 prize pool split up between the regular and bounty pools, with a top bounty of $4,500 up for grabs.

Among those to finish in the money for $562.50 apiece but fall short of the final table were the following –

• “Panxetillo” (10^th place)
• “kellerassel0” (11^th place),
• “yaewn” (12^th place)

Some familiar faces to make the final table were the following players –

• “BigLev” (7^th place for $956.25 plus $1,012.50 in bounties)
• “algsxr” (5^th place for $1,575 plus $2,812.50 in bounties)
• “marllonsanti” (3^rd place for $2,970 plus $675 in bounties)

The top bounty went to Lithuania’s “skacas”, who also won the tournament for $6,300. With $7,312.50 in bounties, they walked away with $13,612.50 in prize money.

In other Sunday news, Brazil’s “brunocasadei” bested a 1,957-entry field to win the $11 buy-in Event #13: $20,000 Mystery Bounty Mini 8-Max. The waled away with $1,381 plus $153.08 in bounties for a total payday of $1,534.08.

There was a $2,000 top bounty prize available in that tournament. It went to Lithuania’s “krutesnis16”, who also finished in 77^th place for a total payout of $2,025.51.

What’s Coming Up?

The series will culminate with a $250 buy-in, $500K GTD multi-flight Main Event,. Many of the other tournaments sport a Mystery Bounty format, which are extremely popular among 888poker players.

As for the Main Event, Day 1s start January 25 and will run until January 30. Players can buy in directly or play the XL Winter Series Freerolls now and running until the series finale.

Day 2 of the tournament will take place at 20:00 GMT on Sunday, January 30, while the Main Event final table will take place on January 30 at 19:00 GMT. It will be live-streamed at 20:00 GMT on our 888pokerTV Twitch channel.
