Explanation of Laydown
To “lay a hand down” simply means to fold it. Although the term can be used interchangeably with ‘fold”, making a “laydown” often implies there was some effort required in making the decision. I.e. we have a strong hand and really don’t want to fold it, but eventually decide it is the best option.
Example of Laydown used in a sentence -> We thought for a really long time on the river before finally making the laydown with our top pair.
