Explanation of Small Bet
Fixed limit structures make use of two postflop bet sizings, the small bet and the big bet. The small bet is usually the same size as the big blind, while the big bet is twice the size of the small bet. Depending on the street, either the big bet or the small bet sizing will be used.
In limit Hold’em and Omaha, the small bet sizing is used on the preflop and flop betting rounds while the big bet sizing is used on turn and river. In fixed limit stud games the small bet is used on all betting up to and including fifth street, while the big bet is used on sixth and seventh street. The only exception is where a player holds an open pair on fourth street and is allowed to use the big bet sizing under these circumstances.
Example of Small Bet used in a sentence ->The small bet is usually exactly half the big bet amount.
